ReWire Link Cannot Be Established in Waves Tune

May 01, 2023

If you encounter the following message in the Waves Tune plugin: “ReWire link cannot be established; Please check your settings,” please follow these steps.

Please Note:

The ReWire software protocol does not work on Apple Silicon processors.

Pro Tools

In Pro Tools, the Waves ReWire plugin must be inserted to allow full sync with Pro Tools’ transport and timeline. Since the Waves ReWire plugin has no audio output, you should insert it into an auxiliary track so that it doesn’t use a valuable voice. Most other host applications automatically launch the Waves ReWire device.

  1. Create a new Aux track.
  2. In an empty insert slot, go to the “Instruments” category.
  3. Select the Waves ReWire plugin.
  4. If the message persists, either open a new instance of Waves Tune or relaunch Pro Tools.

Logic

  1. In Logic, go to Preferences > Audio > Devices tab.
  2. Set the ReWire Behavior to Live Mode.
  3. Click Apply Changes.
  4. Quit Logic and relaunch it.

Cubase

In order to establish a ReWire connection in Cubase:

  1. In Cubase’s top menu, go to Studio > ReWire > ReWire Setup.
  2. Enable Waves ReWire.

Studio One V3/V4

In Studio One V3/V4, ReWire must first be enabled in Studio One preferences, then loaded to allow full sync with Studio One’s transport and timeline. Most other host applications automatically launch the Waves ReWire device.

  1. Go to Studio One Preferences/Options:
    • Mac: Studio One menu > Preferences > Advanced tab > Services tab
    • PC: Studio One menu > Options > Advanced tab > Services tab
  2. Click “I’ll be careful, I promise!”
  3. Scroll down to “ReWire Support” and click “Enable” (only if currently disabled)
  4. In Mixer View (F3), click the Instruments “+” icon and select ReWire > Waves Rewire to load.
  5. ** If the message persists, either open a new instance of Waves Tune or relaunch Studio One.

REAPER

In REAPER, the Waves ReWire plugin must be inserted to allow full sync with REAPERs transport and timeline. Most other host applications automatically launch the Waves ReWire device.

  1. Go to the Add FX menu > ReWire.
  2. Select Waves ReWire.
  3. Click OK.
  4. If the message persists, either open a new instance of Waves Tune or relaunch REAPER.

Digital Performer

In Digital Performer, the Waves ReWire link must be made to allow full sync with Digital Performer’s transport and timeline. Since the Waves ReWire plugin has no audio output, you should insert it into an auxiliary track so that it doesn’t use a valuable voice. Most other host applications automatically launch the Waves ReWire device.

  1. Create an auxiliary track.
  2. Set the Aux tracks input to Waves ReWire.
  3. If the message persists, either open a new instance of Waves Tune or relaunch Digital Performer.
