MultiRack – Support Notes
Feb 05, 2024
Important note:
The last Waves plugin version supported in MultiRack is v10. MultiRack (Native / SoundGrid) is no longer available for online installation via the Waves Central application. To install MultiRack, an offline installer file must be downloaded and installed via Waves Central. Learn more.
This page presents existing issues in Waves MultiRack, some with workarounds. We encourage you to contact Waves Live Support and report any issue you may encounter.
After some time, users may experience long loading times when loading MultiRack Native or SoundGrid Studio sessions. For immediate resolution – log in to Waves Central and then re-launch Multirack. This issue has been fixed with the release of a new support file. For a permanent fix, please re-install Multirack Native and/or SoundGrid.
When two SoundGrid I/Os (such as WSG-Y16, DiGiGrid MGB, etc.) are assigned in the same setup, their clock settings may change when a session is loaded. Each time you launch this session, make sure that the clock settings are correct.
The first saved snapshot in MultiRack is triggered by MIDI Program Change 0. This is because MultiRack Snapshots respond to MIDI Program Changes 0–127.
Pasted plugin presets are not saved or recalled in sessions. Avoid copy/pasting presets (right-click > Copy/Paste) between plugins in racks. Use Save/Load from the plugins toolbar instead.
Rack On/Off settings are not recalled with snapshot changes – this is by definition to avoid CPU jumps on snapshot changes.
MultiRack Software Freezes or Quits
When multiple GUI actions are performed on MultiRack on Mac computers (running OS X El Capitan and above), memory may gradually become full, which in rare cases might cause the computer to freeze. We advise to restart the computer occasionally to clear the memory cache, or to restart it prior to the show: this should prevent the issue from happening.
Some SoundGrid plugins by non-Waves manufacturers, such as Sonnox Oxford V3, may gradually increase the session’s CPU usage. Use these plugins at your own risk.
MultiRack cannot launch if SoundGrid plugins by non-Waves manufacturers are installed on the MultiRack computer without a valid license.
Performance
Compact servers are supported with MultiRack SoundGrid versions below 9.7 only.
We highly recommend using the following qualified systems:
Mac mini 2014 and up, i7, 8 GB RAM, minimum 256 GB SSD, Windows 10 via Bootcamp.
HP EliteDesk 800 G3, Customized with i5-7600 CPU @ 3.5Ghz, 16 GB RAM, 128/256 SSD, Intel HD Graphics 630, 3 display ports, Ethernet port (Intel I219-LM), Windows 10.
OS X users: For reliable performance of audio transport from the SoundGrid Core Audio Driver to the SoundGrid network, new Apple computers featuring Thunderbolt 3 / USB-C connectivity should use one of the following adapters:
Sonnet Solo 10G Thunderbolt 3-to-Ethernet Adapter.
OWC Thunderbolt 3 10G Ethernet Adapter.
Touch and Multi-Touch Screens:
Multi-touch support for Windows 8.1 and up, with touchscreens supporting 10-point touch.
Single-touch support for Mac (using compatible drivers).
Windows Users: Connecting to a SoundGrid network via Thunderbolt 3 is currently not supported.
Using the SoundGrid Driver to record at 96kHz with an A&H M-Waves card via any Waves Host application may introduce audible artifacts to the recording.
VPN software can alter network settings to meet its requirements. These changes may affect the network ports used for SoundGrid and may compromise performance of the SoundGrid network. We strongly advise that you remove, disable, or turn off all VPN software while working with SoundGrid.
The ‘OverView’ view is not functional in MultiRack.
Microsoft Windows ‘Custom Theme’ and ‘Scaling’ cause graphic issues/corruptions in MultiRack. To resolve this, set the recommended resolution to 1280x1024 / 1600x1024, the theme to default, and scaling to 100%, then restart.
Plugin ‘bypass’ buttons do not work in MultiRack SoundGrid on touch screens. Use your mouse to control the bypass buttons.
The Bucket View in the CLA MixHub plugin is currently not supported in MultiRack.
Additional Support Notes
Waves X10 servers (Extreme-C SoundGrid Server, Extreme SoundGrid server, One-C SoundGrid Server, Titan\Titan-R SoundGrid Server) are not compatible with MultiRack.
In Multirack on Mac computers, under the View menu, there is Hide/Show Tab Bar button. This is an OS X entry; it doesn’t do (or hurt) anything.
MIDI feedback is not available in MultiRack.
Assigning a custom-specific button as the MIDI In device to control TAP TEMPO is not possible in MultiRack. Here are two workarounds:
MultiRack Preferences > General > Sync to MIDI Tempo: This option allows you to receive tempo settings from the MIDI controller you’ve chosen as your MIDI In device in the MIDI tab of the preferences window (not Tap).
MultiRack Preferences > General > Sync to Remote Controller (MultiRack SoundGrid only): This option allows you to receive tempo from a console (e.g. Lawo, DiGiCo, etc.) assigned in the Remote Control tab of the preferences window.
Currently, controlling Waves Tune Real-Time with a MIDI keyboard (Target Pitch) is not possible with the latest V9 server firmware provided in MultiRack. This issue will be fixed.
In the meantime, if you wish to use this feature, please contact technical support to install an earlier firmware version.
The Rack Sidechain input in MultiRack is pre-process by definition.
In MultiRack Preferences > Remote Control, after assigning a LAN port, you must press “Apply” for the Remote Control list to display available consoles.
Remote Control connection (e.g., Lawo, DiGiCo, etc.) is not supported or functional when using a SoundGrid driver in the network for recording or streaming.
Meter clarifications:
MEM Meter: This meter reflects the memory being used by MultiRack, a percentage from the total memory allocated by the operating system to MultiRack (on local host computer that runs MultiRack).
SYS Meter: This meter displays the highest CPU peak value on the SoundGrid server being used.
